The Valley of Dry Bones

Ezekiel 14
Some of the elders of Israel came to me and sat down in front of me. Then the word of the Lord came to me: “Son of man, these men have set up idols in their hearts and put wicked stumbling blocks before their faces. Should I let them inquire of me at all? Therefore speak to them and tell them, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: When any of the Israelites set up idols in their hearts and put a wicked stumbling block before their faces and then go to a prophet, I the Lord will answer them myself in keeping with their great idolatry. I will do this to recapture the hearts of the people of Israel, who have all deserted me for their idols.’  “Therefore say to the people of Israel, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Repent! Turn from your idols and renounce all your detestable practices!

Exodus 20
“I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.  “You shall have no other gods before me.  “You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below.

1 Corin 6:19-20:  Don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, 20 for you were bought at a price. So glorify God with your body.

Ezekiel 36:16-23a
“The word of the Lord came to me:  “Son of man, when the house of Israel lived in their own land, they defiled it by their ways and their deeds. Their ways before me were like the uncleanness of a woman in her menstrual impurity.  So I poured out my wrath upon them for the blood that they had shed in the land, for the idols with which they had defiled it.  I scattered them among the nations, and they were dispersed through the countries. In accordance with their ways and their deeds I judged them.  But when they came to the nations, wherever they came, they profaned my holy name, in that people said of them, ‘These are the people of the Lord, and yet they had to go out of his land.’  But I had concern for my holy name, which the house of Israel had profaned among the nations to which they came.”

Ezekiel 37:1-2
“The hand of the Lord was on me, and he brought me out by the Spirit of the Lord and set me in the middle of a valley; it was full of bones.  He led me back and forth among them, and I saw a great many bones on the floor of the valley, bones that were very dry.”

Ezekiel 37:3
“He asked me, “Son of man, can these bones live?”  I said, “Sovereign Lord, you alone know.”

Ezekiel 37:4
“He said to me, “Prophesy concerning these bones and say to them: Dry bones, hear the word of the Lord!”

Ezekiel 37:7
“So I prophesied as I had been commanded. While I was prophesying, there was a noise, a rattling sound, and the bones came together, bone to bone.  As I looked, tendons appeared on them, flesh grew, and skin covered them, but there was no breath in them.”

Ezekiel 37:9-10
He said to me, “Prophesy to the breath, prophesy, son of man. Say to it: This is what the Lord God says: Breath, come from the four winds and breathe into these slain so that they may live!”   So I prophesied as He commanded me; the breath entered them, and they came to life and stood on their feet, a vast army.”
