In Our Day: A Solemn Assembly

Matthew 16:1-3
The Pharisees and Sadducees came to Jesus and tested him by asking him to show them a sign from heaven.  He replied, “When evening comes, you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red,’ and in the morning, ‘Today it will be stormy, for the sky is red and overcast.’ You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times.

Habakkuk 3:1-2
A prayer of Habakkuk the prophet. On shigionoth.  2 Lord, I have heard of your fame;
I stand in awe of your deeds, Lord. Repeat them in our day, in our time make them known; in wrath remember mercy.

Joel 2:15-17
Blow the ram’s horn in Zion! Announce a sacred fast; proclaim a solemn assembly. 16 Gather the people; sanctify the congregation; assemble the aged; gather the infants, even babies nursing at the breast. Let the groom leave his bedroom, and the bride her honeymoon chamber. 17 Let the priests, the Lord’s ministers, weep between the portico and the altar. Let them say, “Have pity on your people, Lord, and do not make your inheritance a disgrace, an object of scorn among the nations. Why should it be said among the peoples, ‘Where is their God?’

Ezekiel 7:5-9
This is what the Lord God says: Look, one disaster after another is coming!  An end has come; the end has come!  It has awakened against you. Look, it is coming!  Doom has come on you, inhabitants of the land. The time has come; the day is near. There will be panic on the mountains and not celebration. I will pour out my wrath on you very soon; I will exhaust my anger against you and judge you according to your ways. I will punish you for all your detestable practices. I will not look on you with pity or spare you. I will punish you for your ways and for your detestable practices within you. Then you will know that it is I, the Lord, who strikes.

Joel 2:14a
Who knows?  He may turn and relent and leave a blessing behind him.

Malachi 1:10-14
Oh, that one of you would shut the temple doors, so that you would not light useless fires on my altar! I am not pleased with you,” says the Lord Almighty, “and I will accept no offering from your hands. 11 My name will be great among the nations, from where the sun rises to where it sets. In every place incense and pure offerings will be brought to me, because my name will be great among the nations,” says the Lord Almighty.

12 “But you profane it by saying, ‘The Lord’s table is defiled,’ and, ‘Its food is contemptible.’ 13 And you say, ‘What a burden!’ and you sniff at it contemptuously,” says the Lord Almighty.

“When you bring injured, lame or diseased animals and offer them as sacrifices, should I accept them from your hands?” says the Lord. 14 “Cursed is the cheat who has an acceptable male in his flock and vows to give it, but then sacrifices a blemished animal to the Lord. For I am a great king,” says the Lord Almighty, “and my name is to be feared among the nations.

Genesis 15:16
In the fourth generation your descendants will come back here, for the sin of the Amorites has not yet reached its full measure.”

1 Thessalonians 2:16
in their effort to keep us from speaking to the Gentiles so that they may be saved. In this way they always heap up their sins to the limit. The wrath of God has come upon them at last.

Ezekiel 7:27
The king will mourn, the prince will be clothed with despair, and the hands of the people of the land will tremble.  I will deal with them according to their conduct, and by their own standards I will judge them.  “‘Then they will know that I am the Lord.’”

Psalm 139:23
Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. 24 See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
